Queridos amigos,

The first thing i would like to mention is my gratitude of all the hard work that has been done so far by the members that have been down here from the start: Neil, Leslie, Jon, Andres, Vanessa, Cristina and Flo(rian). To think it’s only been 6 months since the land purchase. We have come a long way and what an exciting year we have ahead us. The foundation has been laid in all sense of the word and it’s fortified daily with fine tuning. The next thing I want to do is give a warm open arms (digital) welcome to our new community members. We can’t wait to meet you!

I have only been in Costa Rica for a week now, and it has already grown on me. And in a literal sense, things are constantly moving and growing along with us, much like the flora and fauna in this part of the country. I am in constantly reminded of fond memories of my early days visiting my grandparents in the countryside. Despite the proximity of Dominical to the capital, San Jose, the feel is one of rural paradise. Even the high-rises of Jaco can’t taint the unsullied feel of raw nature around us. All at once, we are segregated from the outside world and only minutes away from any comfort or necessity. The higher hills offer a wider perspective, while the valleys offer a private feel that is both mysterious and familiar somehow. Walking the pathways that we have cut ourselves offers a satisfaction that you too will soon feel (if you have yet to). This piece of land, our land, is so much more than 60 acres; the land is lush and will sustain us in our sustenance of the community we have created. It is not just a paradise with streams and wonderland-esque aesthetic, but our paradise.

Building Bridges

Costa Rica is really living up to our collective dreams and visions. Living a Pura Vida existence is so empowering and awakening leading us to focus more and more on what really matters in our lives. We have had such an exciting few months here in Costa Rica connecting with the local community and starting work on the Pura Tierra land itself. We now have several community members living here full time and others have visited recently making for such wonderful experiences as we begin to build this beautiful community. There have been some brilliant challenges and discussions and already the connections are forming as we co-create our Eco Village together. We are also feeling really integrated into the larger communities in Uvita, Dominical, the Diamante Valley and up to San Isidro. One big family

We get asked fairly often about why Costa Rica, What is is that we love about living here? So we would love to take a moment and share some of our favourite moments from the last few months just to emphasize what it is that drives ours passion for life and brings us such pure joy:

-A magical fire ceremony on the beach, looking up and seeing the hanging moon and shooting stars in the clear unpolluted night sky

- Cacao cermony to celebrate the Solstice at our wonderful friends farm.

- Yoga overlooking the jungle, ocean and mountains

- Finding a spectacular new ice cold swimming hole surrounded by beautiful jungle and small cascades at Pura Tierra and bobbing around with a few community members after a hard days work

- Having our first community meetings with the community members here in Costa Rica, doing clearings and sharing our passions and visions

- Splashing in the glowing waves at midnight illuminated by the beautiful blue Phosphorescence

- Seeing new community members faces as they see the land for the first time!!

- Jumping of waterfalls into the crystal clear waters below

- Catching Talapia and cooking it for dinner at the beautiful waterfall farm between Uvita and Palmar Sur

- Seeing dolphins jump and frolic in the waves on a boat trip

- Watching Jon wearing a huge smile, riding on the side of the moving digger with machete in hand removing the overhanging brush as we pass

- Seeing our new road reach up into the land and being able to drive to the community area for the first time!

- Laying the pipes for our new bridge and feeling the joy on the bridges completion after some back-breaking blood, sweat and tears.

- Trip to the incredible bio-diverse Osa Peninsula (and breaking down a few times along the way) and seeing the beautiful jungle & beaches, and Scarlet Macaws in the tress just above our heads

- Basking in the beautiful cascades of the Baru waterfall

- Meeting and becoming friends with the local community and hanging out every thursday at the local Farmers Market in San Isidro with our new community

- Our hilarious 5 minute cross-border run to Panama to renew our Visa (You have to do it to understand how comical it is )

- Exploring the many roads and trails, 4x4ing in the mountains surrounding Pura Tierra

- Seeing the seeds sprout from our first few fruit trees (Orange, Mango, Grapefruit, Avocado, Coconut, Lime & Banana Trees)

- Discovering our first Lemon tree in Costa Rica and harvesting the seeds!

- Taking a dunk in the Domnicalito waterfall and pool after a long hard day at the beach (One of our few days off!:)), or sliding down the natural water slide at the Uvita waterfall

- Discovering all the wonderful exotic and tropical fruits (and sampling them at the market) and deciding on the seeds to start sprouting!

- Exploring all 59 acres of Pura Tierra and discovering areas we never knew off before

- Seeing new animals and insects that we never knew existed and seeing the joy on the kids faces as we discover something new

- Learning to surf!

- Learning how to create a natural sauna from Sand Bags and Ferro Cement

- Starting to understand when someone speaks to us in very fast Spanish

- Spending special moments with our children, learning and growing together as a family and seeing that spark in their eyes and zest for life

- Learning that your blisters really can get blisters after spending days swinging your machete to create trails through the giant ferns on the land.

This is just a snapshot of some of our favourite moments and of course the journey has only just begun but there are already so many magical memories with such beautiful people. Such incredible times and so much love, healing and growth together at Pura Tierra. True Pura Vida!

We are here! Truly feel like we are living the dream here in Dominical, Costa Rica!!! And what an incredible journey to get to this point and so much to be grateful for! Each morning waking up to sunshine & monkeys each morning, spending the days working the land as a family, relaxing at the many beautiful beaches then coming home to our little slice of Pura Vida and of course – our hammock!

Land Prices and Half Acre Offer!

We have had some truly incredible people contact us recently with great skills, dreams and aspirations that are completely aligned to the Pura Tierra Vision… The one challenge for these talented individuals, couples and families however has been coming up with the finances to make these amazing dreams a reality.

Since this is a group purchase program where we all pool our money together to purchase and build this wonderful community, the $$s are of course needed. However the Pura Tierra Community Members do want to open our Eco Village up to those that perhaps cannot afford an acre or require some time to pay and so we have decided to sell 4 half-acre plots and create some options to pay over a longer period.

Wow what a truly incredible trip to Costa Rica! We are so excited to share with you all that Pura Tierra has an accepted offer on a beautiful property overlooking the Diamante valley and waterfall in the mountains above the wonderful community of Dominical! Just 10 mins from the beautiful beaches of Dominical and Dominicalito with spectacular views over Marino Ballena on the road down.

Hello Beautiful Friends! 2500+ Facebook likes! WOW – We remember when we were so excited to get to 100!! Thank you so much for all your love & support! What a wonderful journey it has been so far. Please continue to share our posts so we can grow further and spread the word that this way of living is real and possible !

We feel like we are constantly saying this right now – we are feeling amazingly blessed and inspired!! We are geting so close to finalizing the 20 Community Members for Pura Tierra! We now have a Web Designer, Yoga Instructors, Raw Food Chefs, Naturopaths, Natural Builders, Earth Ship Builders, Engineers, Artists, Project Managers, Facilitators, Organic Farmers, Natural Birth Expert, Sound Therapist, Permaculturists , Shaman Inspired Healer, Tai Chi Instructor and so many more talents as part of Pura Tierra. Not to forget the beautiful children who bring so much to this wonderful community! ? What a talented group and – so much we WILL achieve together.

This is a community where we will bring our unique abilities and life together to create something extraordinary. Pura Tierra is a place where we will live with the land, not against it, where we will practice sacred arts while sharing that healing with others. Land Selection Update

We have been locked in land discussions with our Real Estate friends in Costa Rica. One of the key messages being communicated loud and clear is that there are water shortages in the Northern areas of Costa Rica. As we all know, clean drinking water is the most basic, paramount necessity for an Eco Village that will be supporting 20 families.
We of course want to ensure we do all we can to capture water in catchment systems and reduce water wastage (composting toilets anyone? ) but it is also essential that we have a reliable consistent natural water source year round. All properties we are looking at have natural springs or rivers but we are finding that properties slightly further south offer higher quality, larger and fresher water sources (and these usually come with natural swimming holes (some even with waterfalls!!!) to cool off in during the summer heat!).

Based on this we now have 2 areas we are focusing our land search on. Between Manuel Antonio and Uvita; and the Nicoya Peninsula. Based on our research and feedback from our contacts in Costa Rica it would now seem that the Nicoya Peninsula may be unsustainable for an eco village of the size we are planning, and within our budget, unless the property has a significant water source. The land at each of the locations we are looking at satisfies the following criteria:

Year round water to support the WHOLE community
Close to the beautiful beaches of the pacific coast.
A great layout with space for a yoga platform, pool, a shared kitchen & social area, rental cabinas, and shared bathroom facilitiess.
Space and land in which to grow crops, more fruit trees and gardens for the community.
Scenic Views of jungle covered mountains and/or the beautiful Pacific Ocean.
Close proximity to a central hub for supplies while still being far enough away from civilization.
Established rainforest/trees/jungle and the wildlife that comes with it.
Reasonable distance to closest airports/tourism hubs for ease of retreats and to help with supplementing income.
Space for expansion if at some point we decide that we want the community to grow slightly and to conserve land around us to maintain wildlife corridors and protect the land from future development and logging, etc.

What an Amazing Few Weeks! Pura Tierra Update. WOW!

Wow…What an amazing few weeks!! This process so far has been so heart warming and enlightening – we have such a beautiful group of diverse people from around the world coming together to make this wonderful community. After years of hard work, time and dedication we can finally see the community taking shape – the vision becoming a reality. We are so excited and so fortunate to be able to share our lives with such amazing people in a community created by such big, open hearts.

We have also received some very exciting news … We have been contacted by a new magazine about doing an article on Pura Tierra! Truly amazing. It is such a blessing to know that our project will reach people’s hearts before we even begin to get our hands dirty building. We are planning to contact media outlets, that align with our vision, to help spread our progress but it is really quite exciting that they are coming to us! We are also excited to announce that one of our founding community members is a talented filmmaker who is producing a beautiful in-depth documentary on the creation and evolution of Pura Tierra.

For the landowners this is great as having a huge audience to open up to visitors and retreats will help to ensure we have the funds to sustain our lives in our new homes. Also have you seen how many likes we are getting on Facebook? WOW! Truly feeling the love! We will have the hands to help with work and to share in this process and the visitors who will bring back their experience to their communities to help vibrate this way of living throughout the world.

Community Members
Something that has really blown us away is the fact that this project has interested people with so many varied specialties! What we have attracted so far are a yoga instructor/healer, web designer, ethical business leader, artist, shamanic healer, traditional builder, permaculturist, raw food chef, handyman, organic farmer, lawyer, Waldorf teacher, surf instructor, filmmaker, nutritionist, naturopath, doula, acupuncturist … Hmmm and so much more!

There are a few other specialties that would be very useful to have and so please share this newsletter with anyone you know who would be a great addition to the Pura Tierra family. Skills in the following would be a great asset to the community:

making natural body products or any type of specialty food products

Investment
As things have started to heat up and we have more and more people interested we do not want those that really really want to be part of this community to miss out. In consultation with those already signed up to be part of Pura Tierra we have decided to make a slight change within the cost structure. The initial committed members have decided to add a few layers to the cost structure to give an incentive those that sign up earlier in the process (and to compensate the additional time and effort the initial members will have to put in to this community to get it set up). It is imperative that we buy the land quickly due to the fact that we are seeing recent price increases in Costa Rican Real estate plus many of the committed members want to see the purchase of the land happen by the end of the year. We are all super excited to start building our new community and homes! Please keep in mind that by purchasing the land, this does not mean you need to make “the big move” immediately. In fact a few people have already indicated they will not join the community immediately but will visit and contribute when they can.

In order for this group land purchase to work its essential that we have people on board and depositing their funds as soon as possible. Due to the demand we are receiving it is highly likely there will not be any available individual acreages available once the land for Pura Tierra is acquired.

The following price structure is now in effect unless alternative arrangements have been agreed upon for your purchase of 1 acre of titled land at Pura Tierra:

$19,500 – Pay deposit and start your payments before July 1, 2012 and receive a $500 incentive … This applies to all those who have already given their deposits.
$20,000 – Pay deposit and start your payments before Aug 1, 2012.
$22,000 – Pay deposit and start your payments before Sep 1, 2012 (only if land is not purchased by this time).
$26,000 – Pay deposit and start your payments after Sep 1, 2012 (only if land is not purchased by this time).
$30,000 – After land has been purchased by initial community members (only if there are any acres left to sell).

Again we want to reiterate that it is truly important that we have the right people and not just the money to purchase the land. We have turned a few people away who were not the right “fit” for Pura Tierra. If your individual circumstances do not allow you to meet the above schedule then please please talk to us. We want to make this work for you if we can!

The Pura Tierra Community Members have agreed that this is the best way to make sure that we have everyone on board and will be able to buy the land within the year. We of course welcome your honest feedback, so again please do not hesitate to contact us.

Pura Tierra Forum
We will be implementing the Pura Tierra Discussion Forum this week. This forum will enable us to start building community immediately. Everyone who has paid their deposit will be granted access to the forum so they can discuss and share their thoughts, plans and anything Pura Tierra & Costa Rica related with their new friends, family and neighbours.
